I have battled dry eyes for many yrs. One Saturday I was having a HORRIBLE dry spell and decided this CANNOT continue. There had to be a solution to dry eyes. I had been to my primary eye doctor many times (and for many yrs) only to hear him continually tell me to take fish oil and use eye drops. Of course I had been doing that, but my condition was still worsening. My primary eye doctor was treating the symptoms, but not willing to find out the root of my problem. That Saturday I decided to google "dry eye specialists". I had googled those key words before, with no matches. Except on this particular Saturday Dr. Charap's information pulled up. When I called the number listed, to my surprise, he answered the phone himself (on a Saturday I might add). He was highly informed and spoke to me regarding "the whys" of dry eyes. He suggested a few remedies (free of charge) as I was relunctant to schedule an appointment at that time. Its important to note that Dr. Charap does not accept insurances and I wanted to utilize mine. Afterall, isn't that why I'm paying for it? After taking a week to think about it I decided enough is enough! I needed to do whatever it took to gain some relief. Reluctantly, I made an appt (I wasn't sure how much the Doc could do for me when my primary eye Dr tried everythg he could already). It turns out that I could not have spent my cash in a better place. Dr. Charap was able to conduct tests that I had never had done before. During these test he didn't just regurgitate the results to me. I was able to see them on the monitor as he pointed them out. Big difference from my routine eye appt. There was one particular test that I count as being a MAJOR help in my dry eye relief, but of course I can't tell you what it was (Go see Dr. Charap for that). These tests helped me to find THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM (I had a root afterall guys!). Fast forward 6 months later: If Im not careful I still battle with dry eyes as the root of my problem causes it. I still use eye drops (less frequently however). I also still have "hard" days but NEVER horrible days b/c I can take precautions to limit the dry spells! I honestly wish I had come across the Doc sooner, but I am just glad I did. Dr. Charap really went out of his way for me (pssst, I think he likes what he does)! One thing is for sure, I wouldn't hv this progress without him and his tests! (Note: Since Dr. Charap does not accept insurances, if he prescribes medicated eye drops that will also be out of pocket if you have an HMO). Thank you Dr. Charap!!!
